Murphy signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Red Wings on Wednesday.
Murphy is coming off a strong year with AHL Henderson in which he produced 27 points in 37 contests. The 28-year-old defenseman hasn't played in the NHL since 2018-19 when he played in three games between the Wild and the Devils. The Red Wings are in a rebuild, but it's unclear if the Ontario native will get a chance to win a roster spot in training camp.
