DALY DRIVES THE GREEN ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB

"Grip It and Rip It" becomes "Grip It and Click It" as Golf's Biggest Hitter Joins SportsLine USA

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- December 2, 1996 -- Popular professional golfer John Daly has connected again, blasting right into cyberspace as his World Wide Web site tees off today through an exclusive relationship with SportsLine USA, the world’s largest sports web site. The site (http://www.gripitandripit.com) is a multimedia universe which couples Daly’s famed “Grip It and Rip It” style with a vast array of technological and interactive features.

The Web site will feature highlights from Daly’s career, online video golf instruction, and extensive updated year-round coverage of the PGA Tour.

Daly, whose following is among the largest and most loyal on the professional tour, is internationally known for his booming drives, which regularly crack the 300-yard marker. The 1995 British Open Champion now brings to his Web site the same “go-for-the-green,” “no-holds-barred” attitude which has invigorated the PGA Tour over the last six years.

“This Web site is a great way for me to interact with golf fans from around the world,” said Daly. “It also allows me a forum to highlight the various activities in my life which have real meaning to me.”

Featuring the latest audio and video technologies, the Daly site includes Macromedia Shockwave, Netscape LiveVideo, Netscape Merchant System, and Netscape Community System. Daly will also interact with his fans via e-mail, columns, newsletters, and chat.

The site is divided into seven distinct areas:

Off the Green: A look at Daly’s off-the-course life, including his charity work, information on his family, and his time at the University of Arkansas.

Grip It & Rip It: Highlights, video and audio clips from Daly’s victories at the 1991 PGA Championships, 1992 B.C. Open, 1994 BellSouth Classic, and 1995 British Open.

The 19th Hole: Interactive area with chat , Q&A, and e-mail links. Daly will make periodic visits to the chat sessions.

Pro Shop: COMING SOON: Access to the latest in golf clubs, bags, apparel and authentic lithographs from the British Open, autographed by Daly.

Leaderboard: Follow the PGA Tour from tee to green and every fairway in between, featuring SportsLine’s award-winning golf coverage and columnists.

The Killer Swing: Online lessons with video instructions from golf’s longest hitter on how to improve many areas of your game.

Long Ball Game: COMING SOON

“John’s popularity on the course, especially among young golf fans, make his presence on the Web a natural,” said Michael Levy, CEO of SportsLine USA. “The site is sure to be as much of a crowd-pleaser as John has been on tour for years.”

Daly stunned the golf world with his victory at the PGA Championships at Crooked Stick in his first full year on tour in 1991. His aforementioned triumph at the British Open at St. Andrews in 1995 was just as surprising, as he won in a four hole playoff against Costantino Rocca. Daly’s popularity with the younger golf crowd is accented by his two major victories before he turned 30. He also led the tour in driving distance each year on the PGA Tour, with his 289.0 average in 1995 the highest ever recorded in tour history.

Daly plays out of Rogers, Arkansas, and is married to the former Paulette Dean. He has two daughters Shynah Hale (4) and Sierra Lynn (1).
