FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (September 8, 1998) - With the start of the NFL season just underway, CBS SportsLine, published by SportsLine USA, Inc., has developed a special football Web site geared toward children and their parents. The Kids' Zone site, located at (http://cbs.sportsline.com/u/football/nfl/kids) offers an entertaining and interactive opportunity for children, ages 8 to 14, to learn more about the game of football.
The Kids' Zone features unique, colorful graphics highlighted by animated characters that guide users through the site's content areas. It is designed with large, easy to read fonts in bright colors to attract and retain children's attention while enhancing their football knowledge.
The Kids' Zone site was designed to be child-friendly. Parents may be assured that their children's full names, email addresses and any other personal information is never required to participate in any activities on the site -- thus offering a safe, protected learning environment for their children. All chat forums and interactive activities are moderated by SportsLine USA personnel, to further reassure parents that all chat content will be appropriate for children. Use of the Kids' Zone Web site is free of charge. Among the highlights of the site:
· Games - a variety of games with football themes that test children's creativity, memory and learning skills
· Photos - a sampling of NFL game photos with captions explaining all the action
· News - up-to-the-minute headlines from every team in the NFL
· Chat - children and their parents can interact in moderated chats with a variety of guests from the world of football, including current and former players and coaches. A regular chat guest will be noted psychologist Dr. Richard Lustberg, best known as "The Sports Doc." Dr. Lustberg will host a regular monthly chat session for children and parents to answer a variety of sports-related questions. The first chat session with "The Sports Doc" is scheduled for Thursday, September 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET. In addition, children and parents can email questions to "The Sports Doc" at kids@sportsline.com. He will respond to different questions each week and his answers will be posted on the site, covering a variety of issues concerning children's participation in sports.
· Scores - latest scores on all the NFL games
· Players - complete positions and alphabetical listings of all NFL players, including their stats and player profiles
· Audio/Video - each week, an assortment of audio and video containing interviews from players and coaches
· Birthday Tracker - this unique interactive feature allows children to list a date (month and day) to discover which NFL players share their birthday
· Cool Stuff - special NFL-licensed merchandise geared toward children is available through the site, including apparel, watches, and CD ROM games. Children are not able to purchase merchandise from the site on their own, but must have their parents make the online purchase for them.
· Teams - a complete run down of all 30 NFL teams including their schedules, stats, standings, rosters and team history. This area also includes a glossary of the most commonly used football terms, helping to make the language of the game more understandable for children.
