CBS SportsLine Hires Top Hockey And Baseball Beat Writers

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (October 13, 1999) - CBS SportsLine, published by SportsLine USA, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLN) has hired two senior-level writers to enhance its coverage of the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball. The moves support SportsLine's commitment to providing the best sports content on the Internet.

When the puck dropped on the 1999 - 2000 hockey season, Keith Gave joined CBS SportsLine as a senior staff writer. Gave was a writer and columnist with The Dallas Morning News since 1998, where he covered the 1999 Stanley Cup-winning Dallas Stars. Previously, Gave spent 14 years with The Detroit Free Press as its NHL writer, where he received numerous writing and reporting awards, including national recognition from the Associated Press for a series of stories, following a three-week assignment in Moscow, on the exodus of Russian hockey players to the NHL. Gave's journalism career also includes writing and reporting positions with the Associated Press in Chicago, and The Lansing State Journal. Gave also spent six years in U.S. Army intelligence, as a Russian linguist assigned to covert activities in West Berlin.

As Major League Baseball moves deeper into the post-season, Scott Miller joins CBS SportsLine as a senior staff writer from The St. Paul Pioneer-Press, where he spent the last six seasons as the Minnesota Twins beat writer. Previously, Miller covered Cal State Fullerton as beat writer for The Los Angeles Times, Orange County edition, and San Diego State University for The Times' San Diego edition. Miller has also served as a columnist for The Sporting News, Baseball America, Baseball Bulletin and Chargers Football Weekly. During his career, Miller has received numerous professional awards from the Associated Press Sports Editors, the Society of Professional Journalists in both Minnesota and San Diego, and the San Diego Press Club.

"The addition of Keith and Scott to our team of writers further solidifies our efforts to be the leader in sports content on the Internet," said Michael Levy, president and CEO of SportsLine USA, Inc., publisher of CBS SportsLine. "Our commitment is to provide SportsLine users with late-breaking, in-depth and exclusive information that they can't find anywhere else."

Gave and Miller follow Len Pasquarelli as the second and third hires SportsLine has made from major dailies in the last four months. Pasquarelli serves as SportsLine's senior staff writer covering the National Football League, and has broken a number of stories for CBS SportsLine during his tenure. CBS SportsLine columnist Dennis Dodd was recently recognized for the best column in the Football Writers Association of America's Best Writing Contest.
