With $75,000 up for grabs, hosts the first-ever fantasy sports developer challenge for its open platform

JUNE 12, 2012: today announced it is hosting the first ever developer challenge* aimed at the fantasy sports industry. The Fantasy Football Developer Challenge ( will encourage any companies or individuals in the fantasy sports industry as well as the developer community at large to create apps to be used by millions of fantasy football players around the world.

The announcement was made by Jason Kint, Senior Vice President and General Manager of, at the 2012 Fantasy Sports Trade Association (FSTA) Summer Conference in San Francisco.

"Combining the passion surrounding fantasy football with the genius and creativity of the development community should provide for a hotly contested competition," said Kint. "We're excited to see what apps come from the Developer Challenge and how, once integrated in the open Fantasy Platform, these tools enhance the fun of fantasy football for the millions of die-hard players on"

Individuals or companies interested in participating in the Fantasy Football Developer Challenge are encouraged to visit to sign up for the contest.

According to the FSTA, there are currently 32.8 million fantasy sports players in the United States and of that figure, 24.3 million (74%) play fantasy football. With $75,000 up for grabs, the Fantasy Football Developer Challenge will award cash prizes to three winning apps with the following distribution:

  • 1st place: $60,000
  • 2nd place: $10,000
  • 3rd place: $5,000

The Fantasy Football Developer Challenge officially begins today and will close with the start of the NFL regular season on Wednesday, Sep. 5th. The categories of apps developers can build include: Draft, Roster Management, Results (live scoring, schedule, standings), Content, Administration, and Communications/Social.

Apps will be judged on the following five criteria, each accounting for 20% of the overall evaluation: Originality of concept, design and visual appeal, utility, fantasy value, and market potential. Judging will be performed by a panel of five judges, each with a deep history in the fantasy sports industry:
