The Brewers are in a tailspin, losing six straight and 10 of their last 11 games coming into Saturday. Their division lead has shrunk from 6.5 games to one game during that span.

It gets worse: the Cardinals jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the Brewers within the first two innings on Saturday, and, at the time of this writing, the lead had swelled to 9-1 in the sixth inning (GameTracker). With Adam Wainwright on the mound, that lead is plenty comfortable for St. Louis. They will move into a tie with the Brewers atop the NL Central if they hold on.

Wainwright struck out Carlos Gomez to end the fifth inning, and afterwards Gomez let out about 11 games worth of frustration:

Didn't even break the bat. Times are tough for the Brew Crew.
