Cam Hill: Becomes free agent
Hill elected free agency after being outrighted to Triple-A Columbus by Cleveland on Friday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Hill (wrist) was activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Hill made 10 appearances during his rehab assignment with Columbus, notching an ugly 12.96 ERA and 2.72 WHIP across 8.1 innings. Given the poor performance, it's understandable he'll spend more time in the minors as he continues to work his way back from offseason wrist surgery. Hill (wrist) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus on Friday.
Hill had offseason surgery on his right wrist, and he's spent the entirety of the 2021 campaign on the 60-day injured list. In his first appearance with Columbus, he struck out two and walked one in a scoreless inning. The 27-year-old will likely need a few more appearances to build back up to full strength. Hill shared on his Instagram page that he was in a car accident Monday and needed surgery on his right wrist.
It was Hill's throwing wrist that took the brunt of the damage in the car accident, but he says he will be ready for the start of the 2021 season. Everyone else involved in the car accident were OK. Hill struck out two and did not allow a baserunner in a clean ninth inning to earn the save in the second game of Cleveland's doubleheader against the White Sox on Tuesday.
After Brad Hand and James Karinchak were used in the first game of the doubleheader, Hill was called upon to protect a two-run lead in the second contest. He impressed, striking out the first two batters he faced, generating a combined four swinging strikes. Hill has shown the ability to miss bats in the past, as he punched out 36 batters in 24.2 innings of work at Triple-A in 2019.
