Mariners' J.B. Bukauskas: Outrighted to Triple-A
Bukauskas cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday. After being claimed by the Mariners in mid-January and DFA'd Tuesday, Bukauskas is now set to begin 2023 in the Mariners' farm system and attend major-league spring training as a non-roster invitee. The 26-year-old right-hander recorded a 2.79 ERA and 1.31 WHIP through 19.1 Triple-A innings last season.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.B. Bukauskas: Designated for assignment
Bukauskas was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Tuesday. The move clears a spot on the roster after the Mariners claimed Tayler Saucedo off waivers from the Mets. Bukauskas had a short stay on the Mariners' 40-man roster, as he was claimed by Seattle off waivers from Arizona on Jan. 17. The right-hander posted a 2.79 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP over 19.1 frames with Triple-A Reno in 2022. If unclaimed, he likely will report to Triple-A Tacoma to provide organizational depth for the 2023 season.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.B. Bukauskas: Claimed by Seattle
The Mariners claimed Bukauskas off waivers from Arizona on Tuesday. After being designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, Bukauskas will now get another chance to contribute to a major-league pitching staff with Seattle. Bukauskas spent the first few months of last season on the injured list, but was able to return and post a 2.79 ERA and 1.31 WHIP through 19.1 frames with Triple-A Reno. To make room for the 26-year-old reliever, the Mariners designated Alberto Rodriguez for assignment.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Designated for assignment
Bukauskas was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Bukauskas sustained a shoulder injury in March of 2022 that forced him to miss the start of last season, and he didn't make any major-league appearances for Arizona. He posted a 2.79 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 19.1 innings over 20 relief appearances at Triple-A Reno in 2022, and he'll lose his spot on the Diamondbacks' 40-man roster after the team re-signed Zach Davies on Wednesday.... Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Shifts to Reno
Bukauskas (shoulder) had his rehab assignment moved to Triple-A Reno on Saturday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. Bukauskas made two appearances at the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, striking out three over two scoreless innings, before shifting north to Reno. He pitched for the Aces on Saturday, allowing one hit in a scoreless frame.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Begins rehab assignment
Bukauskas (shoulder/hamstring) struck out a batter in a perfect inning Saturday in his first rehab appearance for the Diamondbacks' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate. Bukauskas has been on the 60-day injured list all season due to a Grade 2 shoulder strain, an injury he sustained in the spring. He had his timeline pushed back earlier in June after experiencing hamstring tightness, but he appears to have moved past that injury and has now resumed ramping back up from the shoulder injury. He'll likely make at least one more rehab appearance in the ACL before potentially moving up to a higher-level affiliate.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Throws bullpen session
Bukauskas (shoulder) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session May 27, Jake Rill and Jack Sommers of MLB.com report. Bukauskas is working his way back from a Grade 2 teres major strain sustained in mid-March and is currently on the 60-day injured list. It's similar to an injury teammate Taylor Clarke had last season, which sidelined him for more than seven weeks.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Extends throwing distance
Bukauskas (shoulder) is throwing from out to 90 feet, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. Bukauskas is progressing, albeit at an incremental pace, in his recovery from a Grade 2 strain of the teres major muscle. The right-hander is on the 60-day injury list and not expected back until some point in June.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Begins throwing
Bukauskas (shoulder) has resumed throwing, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. Bukauskas suffered a Grade 2 strain of the teres major muscle in his right shoulder during his lone outing in spring training. The right-hander is playing catch at a distance of 60 feet.... Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Placed on 60-day injured list
Bukauskas (shoulder) was placed on the 60-day injured list Thursday. The move doesn't change Bukauskas' return timeline, as he was already expected to miss multiple months with a Grade 2 shoulder strain. It clears a spot for the Diamondbacks to add the recently-signed Zach Davies to the 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Recalled by Arizona
Bukauskas was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Friday. Bukauskas spent a week and a half in the minors and struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings across two appearances at Triple-A Reno. He should serve as middle-relief help in the big leagues.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Snares win
Bukauskas (2-2) struck out two over a perfect seventh inning and was the winning pitcher in Tuesday's 11-6 win over the Pirates. Bukauskas was the beneficiary of Arizona's eight-run seventh inning, but he was impressive nonetheless, using his entire repertoire to dispatch Pittsburgh on 14 pitches (10 strikes). Both of his post-break outings have been scoreless. The Diamondbacks will be giving Bukauskas plenty of chances over the final months to chisel away at a 7.98 ERA.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Shaky command in loss
Bukauskas allowed four unearned runs on one hit and three walks in Friday's 11-4 loss to the Giants. This was Bukauskas' first outing after being activated off the 10-day injured list Thursday, and he threw just 16 strikes among his 30 pitches. After a walk, a double play and another walk, he nearly got out of the inning unscathed, but Nick Ahmed's throwing error kept the inning alive. One walk later, Thairo Estrada took Bukauskas deep for a grand slam. The young reliever is expected to remain with the Diamondbacks, who need to evaluate him as a possible high-leverage reliever going forward.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Faces hitters

Bukauskas (elbow) has begun throwing, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. He is out with a right elbow flexor strain and has not pitched since May 14. Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Out with elbow flexor strain
Bukauskas was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right elbow flexor strain. The 24-year-old surrendered two runs on four hits over an inning Friday against the Nationals, and he'll now be sidelined by the elbow strain. Bukauskas is eligible to return May 25, but it's unclear if he's expected to be activated after a minimum stay on the shelf.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Tagged with loss
Bukauskas (1-1) allowed two runs on three hits over one inning and picked up the loss to the Marlins on Thursday. Two pitches into his stint, Bukauskas served up a home run to Adam Duvall, which broke a 1-1 tie and sent Miami on to a win. Following a four-outing hitless run after he was called up, Bukauskas has run into trouble, giving up six runs and nine hits over his last three innings.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Thriving in bullpen
Bukauskas struck out three over a scoreless fifth inning in Saturday's spring game against the Padres. Bukauskas, a starter in the minors, is being groomed as a reliever for 2021 and has excelled in four Cactus League outings. Saturday's appearance was his first during the middle of a game -- thus, facing more experienced hitters -- which is an indication of the team's growing trust in the right-hander, who has not allowed a hit, walk or run while striking out nine over four spring innings.... Diamondbacks' J.B. Bukauskas: Preparing as reliever
Bukauskas will spend this spring as a reliever, though the Diamondbacks aren't closing the door on him as a starter down the line, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. Bukauskas has been almost exclusively a starter in the minors, but his command issues hint that the bullpen may be his best home. He has great stuff, and he's now on the 40-man roster, so it's not out of the question that he could help the bullpen right away.... See More ... See Less
