The Pirates reassigned Plassmeyer to minor-league camp Sunday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Plassmeyer joined Pittsburgh on a minor-league deal in December after he had seen big-league action with the Phillies in both of the prior two seasons, accruing a 9.82 ERA and 1.64 WHIP over 11 innings. He was sharp in Grapefruit League play with four strikeouts over 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, but he'll need to impress over a larger sample at Triple-A Indianapolis before he gets another look in the majors with Pittsburgh.... Pirates' Michael Plassmeyer: Signs with Pirates
Plassmeyer signed a minor-league contract with the Pirates on Friday, Dec. 29. Plassmeyer was lit up during his lone MLB appearance last season, surrendering 10 runs (nine earned) to the Mets over the course of 3.2 innings. The left-hander registered a 5.05 ERA and 1.47 WHIP across 67.2 frames with the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate, and he'll now serve as organizational rotation depth for the Pirates.... See More ... Phillies' Michael Plassmeyer: Removed from 40-man roster
Plassmeyer cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday. He's no longer on the Phillies; 40-man roster but will remain in the organization for the time being. Plassmeyer was rocked for 10 runs (nine earned) over 3.2 innings in his lone appearance for Philadelphia this season.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Michael Plassmeyer: Optioned Sunday
Plassmeyer was optioned the Phillies' spring training complex Sunday. The 26-year-old was called up to start the penultimate contest of the regular season Saturday in Game 2 of the doubleheader against the Mets, but he was rocked for 10 runs (nine earned) across 3.2 innings. Plassmeyer spent most of the campaign at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and posted a 5.05 ERA in 14 starts, so he's unlikely to receive a look during the playoffs for Philadelphia.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Michael Plassmeyer: Rocked in first MLB start
Plassmeyer (0-1) took the loss in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets, surrendering 10 runs (nine earned) on eight hits -- including three home runs -- over 3.2 innings. He struck out four without walking a batter. With the Phillies already locked into the No. 4 seed in the National League playoffs, Plassmeyer got called up for his season debut and first career big-league start so the team could avoid using any arms it might need in the wild-card round, which starts Tuesday. The 26-year-old southpaw got through the first inning unscathed but quickly fell apart after that, serving up a pair of homers to Francisco Alvarez and another to Francisco Lindor before getting the hook. Plassmeyer posted a 5.05 ERA over 67.2 innings at Triple-A this season, and he's unlikely to be a factor for Philly in the postseason.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Michael Plassmeyer: Promotion official
The Phillies selected Plassmeyer from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets. Plassmeyer spent most of the season with Lehigh Valley, logging a 5.05 ERA and 1.47 WHIP while striking out 74 batters and walking 30 over the course of 67.2 innings. He's appeared in two major-league games in his career, though Saturday's nightcap will mark his first time starting an MLB contest. Luis Ortiz was optioned to the Phillies' Florida complex, and Erich Uelmen (undisclosed) was placed on the 60-day injured list to clear a space on the roster for Plassmeyer.... See More ... Phillies' Michael Plassmeyer: Back with Phillies
Plassmeyer (undisclosed) signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Friday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Plassmeyer was released by the Phillies on Tuesday to free up a spot on the 40-man roster, but he will remain in the organization and return to the 7-day injured list. The 26-year-old southpaw holds a 6.95 ERA and 1.68 WHIP with 47 strikeouts through 44 innings for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Michael Plassmeyer: Goes on minor-league IL
Plassmeyer (undisclosed) was placed on the 7-day injured list Wednesday at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. There's no public diagnosis yet, but Plassmeyer will miss at least one turn in the IronPigs' rotation. It could serve as a sort of reset for the 26-year-old left-hander, who has struggled to a 6.95 ERA and 1.68 WHIP through 44 innings this season in the International League.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Michael Plassmeyer: Sent to minors
The Phillies optioned Plassmeyer to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday. Plassmeyer's odds of breaking camp with the big club appeared to improve when Ranger Suarez experienced a setback in his recovery from left forearm tightness that will result in him opening the season on the injured list, but the Phillies will turn to Matt Strahm rather than Plassmeyer to fill the opening in the rotation. A 26-year-old lefty, Plassmeyer made his big-league debut as a reliever in 2022 but otherwise worked primarily as a starter between stops with Lehigh Valley and Triple-A Sacramento in the Giants organization last season, logging a collective 4.21 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 129 strikeouts in 128.1 innings between the two affiliates.... Phillies' Michael Plassmeyer: Not on wild-card roster
Plassmeyer was left off the Phillies' roster for the NL Wild Card Series against the Cardinals on Friday, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Plassmeyer appeared in only two big-league games this season, so it's not a surprise he's not on the active roster for the postseason. He was acquired by the Phillies from the Giants in June and had a 2.41 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 82:23 K:BB over 82 innings (16 starts) for Triple-A Lehigh Valley after the trade.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Michael Plassmeyer: Takes first loss
Plassmeyer (0-1) took the loss Wednesday against Houston, allowing three runs on nine hits and one walk over six innings while striking out six. Plassmeyer relieved Bailey Falter at the start of the second inning and allowed the leadoff man to reach base in back-to-back innings. It cost 25-year-old lefty the second time when Chas McCormick ripped to left to score Mauricio Dubon before the former came around to score himself two at-bats later. Plassmeyer later served up a solo homer to Christian Vazquez in the seventh to put the Phillies in a 3-0 hole. It was just his second big-league appearance of the year after recording a 4.21 ERA and 1.25 WHIP this season in Triple-A.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Michael Plassmeyer: Sent back down
Plassmeyer was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday. Plassmeyer made his major-league debut Tuesday against the Reds and struck out one in 1.1 perfect relief innings. In spite of his solid results, he'll head back to the minors after Cristopher Sanchez was called up Wednesday.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Michael Plassmeyer: Summoned from Triple-A
Plassmeyer's contract was selected from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday. Plassmeyer was traded from the Giants to the Phillies in early June, and he's posted a 2.83 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 54 innings over 11 starts in Lehigh Valley since joining his new organization. The southpaw hasn't yet made his major-league debut but will likely serve as a multi-inning reliever for Philadelphia.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Michael Plassmeyer: Shipped to San Francisco
Plassmeyer was traded from the Rays to the Giants on Friday in exchange for Matt Wisler and cash considerations, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. Plassmeyer, a 24-year-old lefty, owns a 2.23 career ERA in 185.2 minor-league innings, striking out 25.4 percent of opposing batters while walking just 4.6 percent. He owns a 3.64 ERA in three starts and four relief appearances for Double-A Montgomery this season. He has good control and a lower arm slot which could give lefties trouble but lacks overpowering stuff.... See More ... See Less
