With a great record comes the benefit of great clinching scenarios. The Cowboys have a great record at 11-1 and after becoming the first NFL team to clinch a playoff spot in Week 13, they've really got a great shot at locking a few more things down in Week 14.

Specifically, the Cowboys can sew up the whole "home-field advantage/No. 1 overall seed" business this week if a few things break right.

The NFC East is on the line as well as a first-round bye. The Cowboys have to win Sunday night against the Giants in New York. But after that, things really open up for them in terms of potentially locking things down.

The NFC East is pretty basic. Dallas clinches the division with:

1. DAL win

Beat the Giants and Dallas would be four games up on the division with just three games to play. That's pretty basic math.

It gets a little bit tougher for Dallas to secure a first-round bye (a.k.a. at worst the No. 2 seed in the NFC). But the two scenarios available aren't out of the question.

Dallas clinches a first-round bye with:

1. DAL win + DET loss or tie

OR

2. DAL win + SEA loss

The Lions play the Bears at home in Week 14, so the first situation doesn't seem likely. But it is worth remembering that Detroit already lost to the Bears once this year. Seattle just lost Earl Thomas for the season and now faces the white-hot Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in Green Bay.

The Seahawks are favored in that situation and it wouldn't be surprising if they won. So potentially the Cowboys could win and see both Detroit and Seattle win, scrapping for a week their ability to clinch a first-round bye.

On the other hand, both of them could lose, which leads us to ...

How Dallas can clinch home-field advantage throughout NFC playoffs:

1. DAL win AND DET loss/tie AND SEA loss

And there's the magic set of circumstances for Dallas. They'll know before they play the Giants whether they can clinch a bye or home field -- Dallas and New York play on Sunday night and the Lions and Seahawks play earlier in the afternoon (1 p.m. ET and 4:25 p.m. ET, respectively).

So Dallas having the best-case scenario remains a bit of a long shot, but it still faces a potentially fantastic evening.
