Glover Quin: Retiring from NFL
Quin is retiring from football, ESPN.com's Michael Rothstein reports.
The Lions released Quin in February after he started all 16 games in each of his six seasons with the team. His place at free safety likely will be filled by 2018 third-round pick Tracy Walker, who cut into the 33-year-old's snaps this past December. With 156 starts, 733 tackles (524 solo) and 24 interceptions in 159 career games, Walker put together a nice career for the Texans and Lions, missing just one game in 10 seasons. His lone Pro Bowl appearance came in 2014, when he led the NFL with seven interceptions.

Glover Quin: May retire after being released
Quin isn't sure if he will continue his football career, but he does at least plan to assess the opportunities offered, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Quin has 148 consecutive starts to his name, with most of those coming the past six years in Detroit. He's given some thought to retirement since the Lions released him last week, but he's also open to continuing his career if the right opportunity pops up. The 33-year-old finished 2018 with his lowest marks for snaps (829), passes defensed (three) and interceptions (zero) during his tenure in Detroit, losing some playing time to rookie third-round pick Tracy Walker late in the season. Quin still profiles as a competent starter, combining above-average coverage skills with functional tackling.

Glover Quin: Cut free by Detroit
Quin was released by the Lions on Friday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The 33-year-old started all 96 games in his six seasons with Detroit, averaging 71 tackles and 3.2 interceptions per year. He was one of the better free safeties in the NFL during his prime, but the Lions would rather clear out $6.25 million in cap space at this stage of Quin's career. The veteran shouldn't have too much trouble finding a chance to compete for another starting job, while Tracy Walker is poised to take over as the top free safety in Detroit.

Lions' Glover Quin: Uncertain to remain with Detroit
Quin seems likely to be cut if he doesn't retire this offseason, Mike Clay of ESPN reports.
A staple of the Lions secondary for six seasons now, Quin's performance declined in 2018 during his age-32 season, regardless of what his respectable stat line may suggest. Detroit could save over $6 million in cap space by letting him go, and that's a decision that seems much easier to make now that 2018 third-rounder Tracy Walker flashed promise as a rookie. In any event, it's been a long time since Quandre Diggs took the torch from Quin as the Lions safety to own in IDP formats.

Lions' Glover Quin: Down year in 2018
Quin produced 74 tackles, one sack and three pass breakups over 16 games in 2018.
The ironman that is Quin has now started 148 consecutive games, but in 2018 he logged a career low in snaps and went without a turnover for the first time since 2011. Part of the reason for his decrease in playing time was to get Pro Bowl teammate Quandre Diggs on the field as often as possible in addition to seeing what third-round rookie Tracy Walker could do, but it could also be argued that the 33-year-old has lost a step. Prior to the regular-season finale against Green Bay, Quin said he wasn't sure if he'd continue his career in 2019 despite having one season left on his contract, per Michael Rothstein of ESPN. Even if Quin does return, the IDP asset to own in this secondary is clearly Diggs at this point.

Lions' Glover Quin: Leads team in tackles
Quin had seven solo tackles and a sack in Sunday's loss to the Bears.
Quin had an abnormally quiet performance last week against the Panthers with only a single tackle, but he responded Sunday to lead the Lions in tackles and record his first sack of the season. The 32-year-old isn't much of an IDP, as the seven tackles mark his second-highest total of the season, and he has zero interceptions or forced fumbles.

Lions' Glover Quin: Notches five tackles against Bears
Quin tallied five tackles during Sunday's 34-22 loss to Chicago.
While his modest production was right in line with his season averages, Quin otherwise had a day to forget Sunday. The worst part of his performance came on a brutal missed tackle on Bears receiver Anthony Miller, a miscue that allowed the rookie to walk into the end zone for a 45-yard touchdown. The entire Lions defense will need to rebound in a big way if Detroit is going to have any chance of stopping Cam Newton and the Panthers in Week 11.

Lions' Glover Quin: Ties career high with 13 tackles
Quin recorded 13 tackles during Sunday's 31-23 victory over the Packers.
Quin was all over the place and ultimately tied the career-high tackle total he originally set in Week 10 of the 2010 season. However, this was only the third time the 32-year-old has tallied double-digit tackles in a single contest over his 148-game career, so don't start counting on Quin for this kind of production on a weekly basis going forward.

Quin recorded 84 tackles, six PBUs, three interceptions, one touchdown, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery across 16 games in 2017.
Quin, the Lions' unquestioned leader in the secondary, logged his highest tackle count since coming to Detroit in 2013 and his four forced fumbles tied for fourth in the league. His excellence translated to the fantasy realm, as he finished as a top-10 defensive back in most IDP formats. Under contract with the Lions through 2019, Quin -- Pro Football Focus' fourth-highest graded safety in 2017 -- hasn't shown any signs of slowing down as he approaches his age-32 season.

Lions' Glover Quin: Leads Lions with nine tackles
Quin recorded nine tackles and one forced fumble during Sunday's 24-21 victory over the Buccaneers.
Quin led the Lions in stops Sunday and remains the tackle leader in the Detroit secondary. His three forced fumbles are also a team high, as well as a career best for the veteran safety. While his play has admittedly slipped in his age-31 campaign, Quin remains a high-floor fantasy option due to his activity around the line of scrimmage.

Two tackles is a season-low for Quin, but hauling in an interception helps bring up his value. The 31-year-old has three interceptions on the season now, but his tackles have been been trending down since he racked up eight in Week 3 against the Falcons, so fantasy owners should steer clear for now.

Quin tallied eight total tackles and a pick-six during Sunday's 30-26 loss to the Falcons.
Even in a losing effort, Quin arguably made the play of the game Sunday when he picked off Matt Ryan late in the second quarter on a pass aimed at Julio Jones and ran into the end zone untouched. His eight combined tackles also tied for the team lead. In total, the veteran safety has now collected 19 tackles, three passes defensed, two interceptions, one touchdown and a forced fumble through three games, planting him firmly on the IDP radar.
