Pos
Position
Defines one of the six spots on the ice occupied by the particular player
 
GP
Games played
A player is credited with a game played if he steps on the ice for any length of time or serves a penalty
 
G
Goals
Awarded to the player who last touched on a goal by their team
 
A
Assists
Awarded to the last two players who touch the puck before a teammate scores provided no defender plays or possesses the puck in between
 
PTS
Points
Credited to a player who records either a goal or an assist
 
+/-
Plus-Minus rating
A plus is given to a player who is on the ice when his team scores an even-strength or shorthanded goal, while a minus is given to a player who is on the ice when opponents score in those situations. The difference is the plus-minus rating.
 
PIM
Penalties in minutes
The total time a player receives for minor, major or misconduct infractions
 
S
Shots
The number of times a player has directed the puck directly at the goal. Also refers to the number of shots on goal faced by a goaltender.
 
S%
Shooting percentage
The number of goals scored as a percentage of shots taken
 
PPG
Power-play goals
Goals scored while the other team is playing shorthanded
 
PPA
Power-play assists
Assists registered while the other team is playing shorthanded
 
SHG
Shorthanded goals
Goals scored when a team is killing off a penalty
 
SHA
Shorthanded assists
Assists registered when a team is killing off a penalty
 
OTG
Overtime goals
Goals scored after regulation time ends in a tie
 
GWG
Game-winning goals
Goals that put a team exactly one goal ahead of the opponent
 
GTG
Game-tying goals
The final goal scored in a tie game. The NHL stopped tracking game-tying goals starting in the 2005-06 season.
 
ENG
Empty-net goals
Goals scored after an opponent pulls the goaltender for an extra attacker.
 
PSG
Penalty-shot goals
Goals scored by a player who is given a free shot on net.
 
SOG
Shootout goals
A goal scored in a shootout. These goals do not count toward a player's season total.
 
SOA
Shootout attempts
The number of times a player participates in a shootout.
 
HAT
Hat trick
A hat trick refers to a player scoring three goals in a game.
 
First
First goals
The first goal of a game.
 
1stP
1st period goals
Goals scored during the first period of a game.
 
2ndP
2nd period goals
Goals scored during the second period of a game.
 
3rdP
3rd period goals
Goals scored during the third period of a game.

Faceoffs won
The number of draws won
 
FL
Faceoffs lost
The number of draws lost
 
Shifts
Shifts
The number of times a player takes to the ice during the course of a game or season.
 
TOI
Time on ice
The minutes and seconds a skater plays during a game or season.
 
PPTOI
Power play time on ice
The minutes and seconds a skater plays while on the power play during a game or season.
 
SHTOI
Shorthanded time on ice
The minutes and seconds a skater plays while his team is shorthanded during a game or season.
 
GS
Game starts
The number of contests a goalie begins in net.

Wins
The number of victories for a team or goaltender.
 
L
Losses
The number of defeats for a team or goaltender.
 
T
Ties
The number of games where a team or goaltender allows the same number of goals as their opponent.
 
OT
Overtime losses
The number of games a team or goaltender loses in either a five-minute overtime period or a shootout.
 
W in OT
Wins in overtime
The number of wins for a goaltender in a five-minute overtime period.
 
L in OT
Losses in overtime
The number of losses for a goaltender in a five-minute overtime period.
 
W in SO
Wins in shootout
The number of wins for a goaltender in a shootout.
 
L in SO
Losses in shootout
The number of losses for a goaltender in a shootout.
 
GA
Goals against
A goaltender's statistic referring to the number of scores he has allowed.
 
GAA
Goals-against average
Refers to the number of goals allowed per 60 minutes played.
 
MINS
Minutes
The amount of time a goaltender is in net.
 
SA
Shots against
Refers to the number of shots on goal a goaltender faces.
 
SV
Saves
Refers to the number of shots on goal stopped by a goaltender.
 
SV%
Save percentage
Refers to the number of goals allowed per shots faced by a goaltender.
 
SO
Shutouts
Refers to the number of games in which a goaltender does not allow a goal.

Penalties
The number of infractions committed by a team or player.

Minor penalties
Encompasses various infractions which result in a two-minute penalty.

Double minor penalties
Encompasses various infractions which result in two, two-minute penalties.

Major penalties
Encompasses various infractions which result in a five-minute penalty.

Fighting penalties
Major penalties given for fighting.
 
Misc
Misconduct penalties
Serious offenses which result in 10-minute penalties.

A flagrant rule violation which results in a player being ejected.

Penalties per game
The average number of penalties taken by a team or player during a game.

Penalty minutes per game
The average number of penalty minutes received by a team or player during a game.
