Fort Lauderdale, FL, May 30, 1995 -- SportsLine USA, Inc., an online service dedicated exclusively to sports information, entertainment and merchandise, will officially launch the first generation of its service on June 1, 1995, company president and founder Michael Levy announced today. SportsLine's service is available on the Internet's World Wide Web through commercial online services or through direct Internet access at http://www.sportsline.com.
The company plans to kick-off its service by featuring daily random drawings to award attractive prizes to registered users who visit the Web site. Each day from June 1 until the end of August, SportsLine will award one registered user a football personally autographed by NFL legend "Broadway" Joe Namath, a company spokesman, advisor and shareholder. The company also plans to offer a variety of additional prizes in the coming weeks.
"June 1 marks only the first step in what will soon become the ultimate online paradise for the sports fan," said Levy. "SportsLine will offer sports fans a greater depth and breadth of sports-related content and a higher degree of interactivity than has ever been available. Our first generation service will feature scores, statistics, game previews, recaps, standings, news, odds, photos and 'Live Baseball' - a real-time graphical batter by batter look at any baseball game that is in progress or completed."
According to Levy, SportsLine will be adding exciting interactive content to its service weekly throughout the summer, including "Live Football," detailed match-up analysis, memorabilia, bulletin boards, live chat, exclusive editorials and compelling proprietary contests and games designed to test the skill of America's most knowledgeable sports fans.
SportsLine's first generation service, including the Namath football drawings, will be made available at no charge to registered users. Beginning in late August, the Company plans to begin charging a modest fee for access to its service. Membership options will vary but consumers can expect a basic monthly rate of under ten dollars for unlimited access to most of SportsLine's content, according to company officials.
