Cal Ripken's New CBS SportsLine Interactive Site Features Biographical
Information, Audio & Video Highlights, Stats, Interactive Game and More

Fort Lauderdale, Florida -- April 10, 1997 -- Baseball’s most enduring star, Cal Ripken, Jr., who on September 6, 1995 surpassed the seemingly insurmountable record of 2,131 consecutive baseball games played, hopes to start another streak of excellence and consistency with the launch of his World Wide Web site. The site is being created through an exclusive relationship with CBS SportsLine, the world’s largest sports Web site. The announcement was made today by Michael Levy, SportsLine’s C.E.O. The site, http://www.2131.com, named for Ripken’s consecutive game streak, offers more than 150 pages of multimedia entertainment and information showcasing Ripken’s life on and off the field and allows fans to communicate with the superstar through a vast array of technological and interactive features.

Ripken’s fans from all over the world can now trace the life of baseball’s "Ironman" from his childhood in Aberdeen, Maryland, to his first game as a Baltimore Oriole at the age of 21, to his his current move from shortstop to third base. The site also features an interactive baseball game, detailed information about the streak, photos, memorabilia, statistics, video and real life audio.

In 1982, Ripken started the season as the Orioles’ third baseman and moved to shortstop in June. That same year he was voted the American League Rookie of the Year. The next season he was selected the American League Most Valuable Player and was an integral part of helping Baltimore win the 1983 World Series. In 1991, he captured his second Most Valuable Player award and became the first shortstop ever to hit 20 or more home runs in ten consecutive seasons.
