The Angels announced Tuesday that Petit won a spot on the Opening Day roster, Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Petit has been productive as a long reliever and spot starter with the Giants and Nationals the last four seasons, and the Angels will bring him aboard in that capacity in 2017 after he submitted a tidy 0.75 ERA and 12:1 K:BB ratio over 12 innings during spring training. Given the Angels' lack of rotation depth, it's not difficult to envision Petit eventually earning a string of starts, but he'll need to perform well out of the bullpen before receiving an opportunity to open games.
