Cruz was designated for assignment by the Cardinals on Tuesday.
Cruz was working at the alternate site recently, but he'll now be removed from the Cardinals' 40-man roster after Ryan Helsley (not injury related) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday. The right-hander has made just one major-league appearance this year, surrendering two runs over one inning.
