Thornburg (shoulder) underwent successful surgery to treat thoracic outlet syndrome and will miss the remainder of the season, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.
Thornburg will now begin a long recovery process in hopes of being ready for the 2018 season. His effectiveness following the surgery remains a question mark given the issues other pitchers have had after undergoing the same procedure.
