Melendez isn't in the Royals' lineup Thursday against the Angels.
Lefty Reid Detmers will start on the mound for Los Angeles, sending the left-handed bat of Melendez into Kansas City's dugout for the beginning of the game. Dairon Blanco will instead serve as the Royals' left fielder and bat eighth.
