  • Cody Carroll: Let go by San Francisco

The Giants released Carroll from his minor-league contract Aug. 23. Carroll submitted a 7.62 ERA and 2.08 WHIP in 39 innings at Triple-A Sacramento before he was handed his walking papers. The 29-year-old right-hander last appeared in the majors with the Orioles in 2020, when he made three relief appearances.

  • Giants' Cody Carroll: Signs with Giants

Carroll signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on Wednesday. Carroll made 25 relief appearances at the Triple-A level in 2021 and recorded a 5.63 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 24 innings. He hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2020 but will likely have a chance to compete as a non-roster invitee at spring training.

  • Cody Carroll: Parting ways with Baltimore

The Orioles released Carroll on Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Baltimore no longer had interest in keeping Carroll on the Triple-A Norfolk roster after he posted a 5.57 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 22 relief appearances with the affiliate. The 28-year-old right-hander will look to land a minor-league deal with another organization.

  • Orioles' Cody Carroll: Clears waivers

Carroll cleared outright waivers and will remain at the Orioles' alternate training site. Carroll was recently removed from the Orioles' 40-man roster, and he'll remain in the organization with approximately one week remaining in the regular season. The right-hander allowed 12 runs on nine hits and five walks over two innings across three relief appearances in 2020.

  • Orioles' Cody Carroll: Returned to alternate training site

Carroll was returned to the Orioles' alternate training site Friday. Carroll served as the 29th man Friday against the Nationals as the teams completed a previously suspended game before their regularly scheduled one, but he struggled mightily in relief. He allowed six runs on six hits and one walk while striking out two over 1.2 innings. He'll head back to alternate camp, and the team could use caution before bringing him up again given his lack of results Friday.

  • Orioles' Cody Carroll: Sent to alternate camp

Carroll was optioned to Baltimore's alternate camp site Thursday. This move frees up a roster spot for Thursday's starter, John Means, who was reinstated from the injured list. Carroll struggled across his only two appearances of the season, recording just one out and allowing six runs on three hits and four walks.

  • Orioles' Cody Carroll: Healthy again

Carroll (back) said Wednesday that he's made a full recovery from the microdiscectomy surgery he required last summer, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. Carroll was plagued by lower-back problems coming out of spring training in 2019 and missed most of the season after he had a piece of a disk shaved off to address his ongoing discomfort. The right-hander was able to make one rehab start for the Orioles' rookie-level Gulf Coast League affiliate before heading to the Arizona Fall League for eight more appearances, avoiding any further setbacks along the way. With his health now intact, Carroll will look to win a relief job with the big club this spring.

  • Orioles' Cody Carroll: To resume throwing Monday

Carroll (back) will resume throwing Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. Carroll has been out since the start of the season with lower-back soreness. He could eventually push for a role in the big-league bullpen, but his 9.00 ERA in 17 innings at the highest level last season doesn't give him a very good case for a major-league spot.

  • Orioles' Cody Carroll: Shifts to minor-league camp

Carroll was sent to minor-league camp Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. Carroll compiled a solid 2.57 ERA and 9:1 K:BB through seven appearances (7.0 innings) this spring, but it wasn't enough to earn him a spot on Baltimore's Opening Day roster. The right-hander will provide bullpen depth for the Orioles throughout the season.

  • Orioles' Cody Carroll: Traded to Baltimore

Carroll, Josh Rogers and Dillon Tate were traded from the Yankees to the Orioles in exchange for Zach Britton on Tuesday. Carroll had a quality 2.38 ERA and 1.08 WHIP across 41.2 innings out of Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's bullpen this season, registering a 55:18 K:BB and .184 opponent batting average. The hard-throwing right-hander will start out with Triple-A Norfolk in his new organization, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him called up to the Orioles if he can illustrate better control of his secondary pitches.
