  • Cody Asche: Playing days over

Asche accepted a position Wednesday on the Phillies' player development staff, signaling the end of his playing career, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Asche will transition into his post-playing career with the Phillies' Low-A affiliate in Clearwater, where he'll serve as a hitting coach. The 30-year-old spent parts of five seasons in the big leagues with the Phillies and White Sox, accruing a .234/.293/.376 slash line and 32 home runs over 1,349 career plate appearances.

  • Twins' Cody Asche: Inks minors deal with Twins

Asche signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Thursday. Asche has not appeared in the majors since 2017, when he played in 19 games with the White Sox. The 29-year-old struggled in limited action at the Double-A level last season, recording a .655 OPS with one home run and 28 strikeouts over 23 games. Given Asche's past experience in the big leagues, it wouldn't be surprising if he's a non-roster invitee during spring training.

  • Red Sox's Cody Asche: Inks deal with Red Sox

Asche signed a minor-league contract with the Red Sox on Friday. Boston's infield depth at Triple-A has been depleted by injuries, so Asche will provide some short-term help. Chad De La Guerra was placed on the injured list as a corresponding move.

  • Cody Asche: Heads to Atlantic League

Asche signed a contract with the Sugar Land Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League on Tuesday, Mike Ashmore of the Trentonian reports. Asche joined the Dodgers on a minor-league deal in February but was apparently unable to make a lasting impression. The 28-year-old last played in the majors with the White Sox in 2017 and has a career .234/.293/.376 slash line.

  • Dodgers' Cody Asche: Inks minors deal with Dodgers

Asche signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Thursday. It's unclear if the deal includes an invitation to spring training, but Asche figures to open (and spend most of) the season in the minors either way. The 28-year-old split time between Triple-A Las Vegas (Mets) and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2018, hitting a combined .220/.304/.399 with 11 homers in 105 games. Across parts of five major-league seasons (390 games), Asche owns a career .234/.293/.376 slash line.

  • Mets' Cody Asche: Signs with Mets

Asche agreed to a minor-league contract with the Mets on Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Asche will report to Triple-A Las Vegas and provide some extra depth to the Mets' organization as a utility man who can play all corners of the diamond. He appeared in 19 games for the White Sox in 2017, hitting a pedestrian .105/.177/.175 with four RBI and 21 strikeouts in 62 plate appearances. The 27-year-old is unlikely to make an impact at the major-league level.

  • Yankees' Cody Asche: Dealt to Yankees

Asche was shipped to the Yankees on Wednesday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Asche is expected to provide a little extra depth as a utility man for the Yankees in Triple-A, though it's unlikely that he will make much of an impact at the fantasy level even if he makes it up to the majors. The 27-year-old only appeared in 19 big-league games for the White Sox last season, hitting a measly .105/.177/.175 with 21 strikeouts in 57 at-bats.

  • Royals' Cody Asche: Signs deal with Royals

Asche agreed to a minor-league deal with the Royals on Thursday. After six years in the Phillies' organization, Asche linked up with the White Sox prior to the 2017 campaign. He failed to impress in his 19 games with the big-league club (going 6-for-57 at the plate), but he put up arguably the best numbers of his career with Triple-A Charlotte. In 347 plate appearances, the veteran slashed .292/.392/.495 with 14 long balls. Despite his minor-league success, he became a free agent at season's end and will now look to put together a strong spring training performance with hopes of working his way onto the rebuilding Royals' Opening Day roster.

  • White Sox's Cody Asche: Accepts outright assignment to Triple-A

Asche was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports. Asche was ineffective during his time as the White Sox's primary designated hitter, so they opted to cast him off the 40-man roster to leave a spot open in case they need a spot for an upcoming callup. He already accepted the assignment, so he'll continue playing in the organization as a depth piece moving forward.

  • White Sox's Cody Asche: Takes seat Tuesday

Asche is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Twins. Asche is not in the lineup against southpaw Hector Santiago after picking up consecutive starts before the off day. Matt Davidson will serve as the designated hitter in his place. The 26-year-old is off to a slow start this season, slashing just .107/.180/.179 through 56 at-bats.

  • White Sox's Cody Asche: Manager sends message

Asche was pinch hit for in Wednesday's game after failing to hustle on a play, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports. Asche, who entered Wednesday's game batting .093, struck out but failed to run to first base after the catcher dropped the ball. It was obviously a message from manager Rick Renteria, but it sounds like the matter's been worked out internally. "We have certain things we want to follow through with and he understood," Renteria said. "And I'll leave it at that." Asche was in Thursday's lineup as the designated hitter and went 1-for-5 with a double and two RBI.

  • White Sox's Cody Asche: Out of lineup Friday

Asche is not in the lineup Friday against the Tigers. Asche will head to the bench for the fifth consecutive game as the Tigers send southpaw Matt Boyd out to the mound. The 26-year-old is off to a brutal start offensively, batting just .057 to start the season, so his absence from the lineup isn't all too surprising.

  • White Sox's Cody Asche: Out of lineup again

Asche is not in the lineup Monday against the Royals. As expected, Asche will hand over DH duties to Matt Davidson with lefty Jason Vargas toeing the rubber for the Royals on Monday. He could find himself on the bench for the third straight game with Kansas City scheduled to send out southpaw Danny Duffy on Tuesday.

  • White Sox's Cody Asche: Out of lineup Sunday

Asche is out of the lineup Sunday against the Indians. Though the Indians will bring a right-hander in Danny Salazar to the hill for the third time in as many games this series, there won't be room in the White Sox lineup for the lefty-hitting Asche, as manager Rick Renteria wanted to use Melky Cabrera at DH to give the veteran a day out of the field. Cabrera should return to the outfield in Monday's series opener against the Royals, but with left-hander Jason Vargas scheduled to start that game for Kansas City, it's likely that Matt Davidson will handle the DH duties while Asche remains on the bench.

  • White Sox's Cody Asche: Out of lineup Monday

Asche is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees. Asche finds himself on the bench for the third time in four games with the White Sox facing a left-handed starter. Manager Rick Renteria will hand the nod at DH to Yolmer Sanchez, who went 2-for-4 with a double Sunday against the Twins.

  • White Sox's Cody Asche: Out of lineup Sunday

Asche is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. White Sox manager Rick Renteria is rolling out an exclusively right-handed lineup Sunday to counter Twins southpaw Hector Santiago, leaving no room for the lefty-hitting Asche. The absence of Asche allows Yolmer Sanchez to pick up a rare start at designated hitter.

  • White Sox's Cody Asche: Earns shot at first base

Asche is batting fifth and starting at first base Saturday against the Twins. It will be his first career start at first base and allows Jose Abreu to get a day off from playing in the field as he shifts to the DH. Asche has two hits and eight strikeouts in 20 at-bats this season, but continues to receive plenty of opportunities in the starting lineup as the season gets underway.

  • White Sox's Cody Asche: Goes 1-for-4 against Indians

Asche went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI during Thursday's win over Cleveland. The first-year Sox is just 2-for-20 on the season, and his playing time could be in jeopardy with Todd Frazier (illness) expected to return to the field Friday and Matt Davidson hitting well (five RBI over the past two games). Asche sports a career .238/.297/.381 slash line with a .296 wOBA, so he's not moving the needle in many fantasy settings.

  • White Sox's Cody Asche: Gets Opening Day start at DH

Asche will bat sixth in the lineup and serve as the White Sox's DH in Monday's season opener against the Tigers. Asche, who also offers the ability to play third base and the corner outfield, will likely split duties at DH with Matt Davidson initially, with the former seeing the bulk of the starts by virtue of being the left-handed hitter of the two. The 26-year-old will probably have to produce before generating much interest in mixed leagues after slashing .213/.284/.350 across 218 plate appearances with the Phillies in 2016.

  • White Sox's Cody Asche: Makes Opening Day roster

Asche has made the White Sox's Opening Day roster, Colleen Kane of The Chicago Tribune reports. The move may come as little surprise considering Asche's torrid spring performance. The 26-year-old slashed .289/.429/.667 with four homers and nine RBI. His versatility as both a third baseman and left fielder will earn him some playing time as a backup.
