Mitchell will skate at right wing on the second line along with Alex Galchenyuk and Lars Eller on Thursday against the Coyotes, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Habs head coach Michel Therrien has tried several bodies at second line right wing and even went back to the previously benched Alexander Semin, who skated a team-low 6:48 in Monday's dramatic win over the Canucks. With the move, Mitchell will shift from a center position to right wing, a spot at which he played a full season when he was with San Jose.
