Cates was brought up from AHL Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Olivia Reiner of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
In a corresponding move, the Flyers placed Scott Laughton on injured reserve. Cates has skated in three games with Philadelphia this year. He has four goals and seven points in 11 AHL contests this campaign.
