Cates was loaned to AHL Lehigh Valley on Monday, Charlie O'Connor of The Athletic reports.
Cates skated in 11 games with Philadelphia last season, potting one goal. He also had 10 points, including eight assists, in 37 minor-league contests in 2021-22.
