The Islanders traded Strome to the Oilers in exchange for Jordan Eberle on Thursday.
The Islanders snagged Strome with the fifth overall pick in the 2011 draft, and it appeared as though the team had made a great selection when the right-handed forward broke out for 50 points (17 goals, 33 assists) in 81 games with the big club in 2014-15. However, the 23-year-old pivot has been trending downward since that breakout campaign, tallying just 58 points (21 goals, 37 assists) in 140 games over the past two seasons. Strome has the potential to develop into a legitimate top-six forward in the NHL, so the Oilers are clearly hoping a change of scenery will help unlock some of that untapped talent.
