The High Class-A California League might be the most hitter-friendly environment in the world. Certainly in the United States, that's for sure. With hot weather and lots of parks at altitude, it's like a league full of Coors Fields. It's pretty crazy.
On Friday night, the High Desert Mavericks (Mariners) took advantage of that hitter-friendliness in a game against the Lancaster Jethawks (Astros). Here's the line score:
I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed with the High Desert kids for taking their foot off the gas. Ten runs in the first inning, 10 runs in the second inning, then only 10 runs in the next six innings? Weak.
Matt Eddy of Baseball America says the High Desert ballpark (Stater Bros. Stadium in Adelanto, Ca.) has a park factor of 1.228. That means it inflates offense 22.8 percent over a neutral park. I guess the Mavericks would have only scored 21.2 runs in a normal park on Friday.
Here's the box score for the game. As a team, the Mavericks went 30-for-54 with nine doubles, one triple, five homers and seven walks. That's a .556/.609/1.037 batting line.
