  • Zander Wiel: Let go by Minnesota

The Twins released Wiel (quadriceps) on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports.

Wiel had resided on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A St. Paul since early May, but he appeared to be closing in on a return after kicking off a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League. Though the injury is seemingly behind Wiel, the Twins apparently didn't deem him worthy of a spot on the Triple-A roster. The 28-year-old infielder will look to find work in another organization ahead of the 2022 season.

  • Twins' Zander Wiel: Rehabbing in FCL

Wiel (quadriceps) began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League last week and has gone 1-for-9 with a double and two RBI in his first three games with the affiliate.

Wiel has been on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A St. Paul since the first week of the season due to a right quadriceps strain. Given the lengthy layoff, Wiel will likely require several more games in the lower minors before reporting back to Triple-A.

  • Twins' Zander Wiel: Out with undisclosed injury

Wiel is on the injured list at Triple-A St. Paul with an undisclosed injury, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Wiel had been 2-for-8 at the plate in two games before getting hurt. The 28-year old is not considered a top prospect, but he hit 24 home runs in 2019 with an .834 OPS.

  • Twins' Zander Wiel: Part of 60-man squad

Wiel was included in Minnesota's 60-man player pool ahead of summer camp before the 2020 season begins, MLB.com reports.

Wiel would seem an odd inclusion as a 27-year old player at Triple-A not considered a top prospect, but he hit 24 home runs last season with an .834 OPS. He gives the Twins a veteran bat at first base if the club needs a short-term callup. He'll likely spend most of the season at Minnesota's alternate training site.
