Mariners' Danny Espinosa: Inks MLB deal with Mariners
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Espinosa agreed to a major-league contract with the Mariners on Sunday, Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports reports.

Just three days after being released by the Angels, the switch-hitting second baseman already has a new home (within the same division no less). This deal is an MLB agreement, so Espinosa would likely be in line to assume a reserve role once the pact is officially inked. Espinosa has a lot of pop in his bat for a second baseman, but his strikeout issues make him tough to trust, especially as a bench player.

Danny Espinosa: Released by Angels
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Espinosa was released by the Angels on Thursday.

The Angels ended the Espinosa experiment last weekend, designating him for assignment, and the 30-year-old is now free to explore other opportunities. Espinosa was a net positive at second base, but his struggles at the plate during his time with Anaheim (.162/.237/.276) far overshadowed his contributions in the field. Look for him to latch on with another club on a minor-league deal.

Angels' Danny Espinosa: Gets designated for assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Angels designated Espinosa for assignment Sunday.

With a .162/.237/.276 batting line over 254 plate appearances this season, Espinosa ranked among the worst-performing regulars in the league, and his nifty defensive work wasn't enough to make up for him empty offensive production. Espinosa's ability to play both middle-infield spots and occasionally hit for some pop could be enough to convince another team to take a flier on him via trade or waivers. However, if the 30-year-old goes unclaimed, he'll likely stick in the Angels organization and report to Triple-A Salt Lake. Barring further upgrades to the position leading up to the trade deadline, the Angels are set to go with a platoon at second base with Nick Franklin and Cliff Pennington.

Angels' Danny Espinosa: Hits bench Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Espinosa is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

For the fourth time in the past five games, Espinosa will find himself positioned on the bench. The veteran infielder is currently sporting a brutal .162 average on the season and will be replaced by Nick Franklin at the keystone.

Angels' Danny Espinosa: Sitting again Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Espinosa is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Twins.

It will mark the second consecutive game that Espinosa will be on the bench, an indication that his hold on an everyday role at the keystone is slipping. The Angels will go with their third different second baseman is as many days with Cliff Pennington receiving the start Wednesday after Nick Franklin handled the position Tuesday.
