Rays' Danny Espinosa: Outrighted from 40-man
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Espinosa was outrighted from the Rays' 40-man roster Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Espinosa was recently designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for the impending return of Xavier Cedeno (forearm) from the 60-day DL. He appeared in just eight games during his brief time with the Rays, hitting a middling .273/.333/.273 with a poor 46 percent strikeout rate.

Rays' Danny Espinosa: Acquired by Tampa Bay
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Espinosa was signed by the Rays prior to Friday's game against the Cardinals, Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times reports.

Espinosa will provide versatility among the infield for Tampa Bay as he figures to man a wide range of positions off the bench with his new club. The 30-year-old was recently released by the Mariners on Sunday, and Tampa Bay marks his third different major-league home this season after beginning 2017 with the Angels. During 85 games, Espinosa has slashed .164/.237/.279 with six home runs and 31 RBI this year.

Mariners' Danny Espinosa: Cut loose by Seattle
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Espinosa was released by the Mariners on Sunday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

The Mariners picked up Espinosa last month after he was released but the Angels, but they decided to cut ties with him as well after he failed to hit over the Mendoza Line in his limited playing time. He now owns an abysmal .164/.237/.279 line through 85 games this season. Despite his embarrassing performance at the plate, he can still play a solid second base, so look for him to latch on elsewhere on a minor-league deal.

Mariners' Danny Espinosa: Drives in run in spot start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Espinosa went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in Sunday's 9-1 loss to the Royals in Game 2 of a doubleheader.

The veteran infielder drove in the only run of the contest for the Mariners when he opened the scoring with his second-inning two-bagger. Espinosa's struggles at the plate made the trip with him to Seattle from Los Angeles, as he's gone just 2-for-11 in the five games he's seen action in. Furthermore, the 30-year-old's playing time projects to dwindle even further now that Yonder Alonso has arrived in town.

Mariners' Danny Espinosa: Struggles in first Mariners start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Espinosa went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the Red Sox.

Espinosa drew the proverbial short straw for his first start in a Seattle uniform with Chris Sale on the mound, but the slugger has been struggling throughout the season. The 30-year-old is now hitting just .067 in July and has struck out seven times in 15 at-bats during the month. However, Espinosa isn't slated to see much playing time in Seattle, with his opportunities likely to be almost exclusively limited to when Robinson Cano gets a day off.
