On Tuesday, the Golden State Warriors tipped off their 2021-22 season with an impressive win. Stephen Curry and company traveled to Los Angeles and defeated the Lakers in front of a national audience, and Golden State performed quite well in the process. Two days later, the Warriors will face another team from Los Angeles, with the Clippers visiting San Francisco for a Western Conference matchup. Thursday's tilt will be the season opener for the Clippers, who will be without Kawhi Leonard indefinitely as he recovers from knee surgery.

Caesars Sportsbook lists Golden State as a three-point favorite for this 10 p.m. ET tip-off. The total number of points Vegas thinks will be scored, or the over-under, is 227.5 in the latest Clippers vs. Warriors odds. Why the Clippers can cover

The Clippers were dominant offensively a season ago, finishing No. 3 in the NBA in offensive efficiency while scoring 116.7 points per 100 possessions. L.A. led the NBA in both 3-point accuracy (41.1 percent) and free-throw accuracy (83.9 percent), with a top-five mark in field-goal percentage (48.2 percent). The Clippers also protect the ball well, committing only 13.2 turnovers per game last season, and that is key against a havoc-creating team like Golden State.

The Clippers finished in the top-eight of the NBA defensively last season, giving up fewer than 1.11 points per possession, and the Clippers fell in the top six in 3-point shooting allowed (35.6 percent), assists allowed (22.9 per game), defensive rebound rate (75.4 percent) and second-chance points allowed (11.8 per game). L.A. also proved in the playoffs that the team could operate without Leonard, and the Clippers should be comfortable with their current rotation.

Why the Warriors can cover

The Warriors opened with an impressive performance on Tuesday, and that effort could extend to Thursday's matchup. Golden State won a road game against the Los Angeles Lakers in the opener, with a 20-point breakout from Jordan Poole in 25 minutes. Veteran big man Nemanja Bjelica also enjoyed a big game with 15 points, 11 rebounds and four assists in a reserve role, and the Warriors held the Lakers to fewer than 1.02 points per possession in the game.

Even more impressively, Golden State won on a night in which Curry struggled with his shot, which is an outlier from perhaps the best shooter in the history of the NBA. Curry did put together a 21-point triple-double, however, and he joins forces with Draymond Green to form Golden State's core. The Clippers don't have their centerpiece in Leonard, and the Warriors are opening their home schedule at Chase Center.
