Morning buzz

•  Another big win for the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night, and here's a beautiful display of passing that was capped off with Mikko Koivu's first of two goals on the night.

•  The Montreal Canadiens announced on Friday morning that they have signed forward David Desharnais to a four-year contract extension. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Renaud Lavoie of RDS reports that it's worth an average of $3.5 million per season. The 26-year-old forward would have been a restricted free agent after this season. In 26 games this season, he has eight goals to go with eight assists and is coming off a career year that saw him score 16 goals to go with 44 assists for the Canadiens. •  Roman Cervenka is currently in the doghouse in Calgary. He came to the Flames with a lot of hype last summer, landing a $3 million contract, but it hasn't worked out as planned to this point.

“Plain and simple, we were not happy about his performance in the last game and in the last while," said coach Bob Hartley. "It’s not about who we play against. It’s how you play." [Calgary Sun]

•  Viktor Fasth, out with an upper body injury, is getting close to returning to the Ducks' lineup. [OC Register]

•  Jonathan Quick had another rough night in net for the Kings, being pulled after giving up three goals in their 4-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks. [Recap]

•  Friday night is the back end of what Ilya Bryzgalov called must-win games for the Flyers. They were blown out in the first one on Wednesday at New Jersey and return home to complete the home-and-home with the Devils on Friday. As for the rest of Friday's schedule ...
