Gonzaga’s shocking loss late Saturday at home to BYU means the CBS Sports Top 25 (and one) now has a new No. 1 team. And that new No. 1 team is … Kansas.
The Jayhawks are a deserving No. 1, if only because they own a three-game lead in what KenPom has labeled as college basketball’s toughest conference. They’ve beaten the projected SEC champs (Kentucky), the preseason No. 1 (Duke) and four other schools (Baylor, West Virginia, Iowa State, Oklahoma State) that are also ranked in the Top 25 (and one). They’re 26-3, on a six-game winning streak and headed for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year.
Kansas is one of five Big 12 teams in the Top 25 (and one).
