Rivera signed a minor-league contract with the Astros on Friday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Rivera appeared in four games for the Rangers in 2020 and went hitless with a strikeout in five at-bats. The 29-year-old has been assigned to Triple-A Sugar Land and should serve mainly as organizational depth for Houston.
