Sparkman (thumb) made his first rehab start Thursday, tossing 57 pitches over 3.1 innings for High-A Dunedin, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Toronto's Rule 5 pick allowed three hits and a walk while striking out three and throwing 40 strikes. It's expected the team will make room in the bullpen for Sparkman once his rehab assignment is over, as he must remain on the big-league roster all season or be exposed to waivers.
