Brooks and the Padres agreed Wednesday to a minor-league contract with an invitation to major-league spring training.

Brooks was lit up for eight earned runs over just 9.1 total big-league frames last season with the Cardinals, who officially cut him loose in October. The veteran reliever will look to right the ship in the Padres' camp this spring, though he faces an uphill battle to actually claim an Opening Day roster spot.
