Marinez has been added to the 25-man roster and will be available Saturday against the Phillies.
The 28-year-old will be in uniform Saturday after being claimed off waivers earlier in the week. Marinez was designated for assignment by the Brewers on Monday after a rocky start to the season, but he was a serviceable reliever in 2016 with a 3.18 ERA over 62.1 innings. He figures to slot into a middle-relief role, and his 94 mph fastball could be a valuable weapon in the Pirates bullpen if he improves his location (5.94 BB/9 this season).
