McRae was optioned to the White Sox's alternate training site Friday.
McRae's contract was selected Tuesday, but he didn't get into a game during his brief time with the team. He'll clear a spot on the active roster for Billy Hamilton (hamstring), who returns from the injured list in a corresponding move.
