The 29-year-old is expected to open the 2022 campaign at Triple-A Charlotte while serving as organizational outfield depth. While in the Reds system in 2021, Smith spent the entire season at Triple-A, but he saw big-league action with either the Blue Jays and Orioles in each of the prior four years. Over 568 career plate appearances, Smith has produced a .248/.310/.416 slash line (90 wRC+) with 17 home runs, seven stolen bases, 68 RBI and 66 runs.
