Karlsson has a minor infection in his thumb and is being treated with antibiotics, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
As such, the veteran blueliner won't participate in the Sharks' split-squad contests against Anaheim and Vegas on Sunday. However, Karlsson could suit up for preseason action Tuesday against the Kings if his thumb feels better in time.
