The NFL has admitted that Jacksonville's wild 22-20 win over Baltimore on Sunday shouldn't have actually been a win for Jacksonville.

The Jaguars won the game on a 53-yard field goal by Jason Myers that was attempted on an untimed down after time expired in the fourth quarter.

The reason the Jags were given an untimed down is because Ravens linebacker Elvis Dumervil was called for a penalty after facemasking Blake Bortles on the final play of the game. The penalty moved the Jaguars from the 50-yard line to Baltimore's 35 and since a game can't end on a defensive penalty, the Jaguars got the untimed down.

What the NFL admitted on Monday though is that the facemask penalty shouldn't have mattered because the Jaguars should've been called for a false start on the play.

With 14 seconds left in the game, the Jags took a snap from their own 40-yard line and Bortles threw a pass for an 11-yard gain to Julius Thomas. Jacksonville was out of timeouts and Thomas didn't get out of bounds, so the clock kept running.

The Jaguars' offense then hurried to the line so they could get off another snap.

The Jags ended up getting off another snap with just one second left and that's when Dumervil's facemask occurred.

However, Jacksonville should've been called for a game-ending false start.

"Inside of one minute remaining of either half, with the game clock running, when the offense is not set simultaneously prior to the snap, it’s a false start," the NFL said in a statement. "This results in a 10-second runoff, which can only be avoided if a team has a timeout remaining."

Remember, the Jags didn't have any timeouts left.

"The correct call in this case would have been to penalize the offense for a false start because all 11 players were not set, and whistle to stop the play. The ensuing 10-second runoff should have ended the game," the statement said.

The 2-7 Ravens should be 3-6, but instead, the Jaguars are, which is actually a big deal because the Jaguars are now only 2.5 games out of a playoff spot.
