Smith was placed on the 7-day injured list Wednesday with a concussion.
He suffered a concussion when taking a foul tip off the mask in Tuesday's game. Dustin Garneau's contract was selected from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Jonathan Lucroy should get almost all of the starts at catcher while Smith is sidelined.
