The Giants designated Bart for assignment Sunday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The former top prospect was once viewed as the heir apparent behind the plate to Buster Posey, but the 27-year-old struggled to a .623 OPS in 162 career games in the big leagues. Bart could receive some interest on the waiver wire given his prospect pedigree, and a change of scenery would likely be beneficial.
