The Mariners said Thursday that Gerber has been shut down from throwing with a mild forearm strain, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Gerber was unavailable for the 2021 campaign due to a back injury that required surgery in July, and he felt his forearm issue during a recent live batting practice session. He was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, and the Mariners are hopeful he'll be able to join the minor-league club sometime after the season opener.
