The Mariners optioned Gerber (back) to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.
Gerber missed the entire 2021 campaign with a back issue that later required surgery in July. It's unclear where he stands in his recovery this spring, as he hadn't pitched in any of the Mariners' Cactus League games prior to getting demoted. Once healthy, Gerber will fill a bullpen role for Tacoma.
