Head coach Rick Carlisle said after Wednesday's 111-104 win over the Lakers that Sabonis played through a sprained left ankle in the final five minutes of the contest that is "probably going to be significant," Scott Agness of FieldhouseFiles.com reports.
Sabonis came away with his fourth triple-double of the season (20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists) while playing his normal minutes (35) and leading the Pacers to a win that Carlisle described as "desperately needed," but if the big man's injury was as severe as the coach intimated, it would go down as a Pyrrhic victory. The Pacers will presumably send Sabonis in for further examination Thursday, but even if the injury doesn't prove to be as worrisome as Carlisle implied, the two-time All-Star is still likely to sit out versus the Warriors in the second half of the back-to-back set as a precaution. Indiana would turn to a combination of Goga Bitadze, Isaiah Jackson and Oshae Brissett to fill minutes at center if Sabonis joins Myles Turner (foot) on the sideline.
