Lillard (abdomen) underwent a cortisone injection in his abdomen last week and could return to game action as soon as Sunday against the Timberwolves, Chris Hayes of Yahoo Sports reports.

Interestingly, Haynes notes Lillard has been battling pain in his abdominal region for "the last few years," so it appears the discomfort dates back to well before the 2021 Olympics, when it first truly came to light. The pain had worsened in recent weeks, but the hope is that the cortisone shot will mitigate it to the point that Lillard will be able to return to action soon and continue to play through the issue. Wednesday's game against Golden State will mark Lillard's fifth consecutive absence, but there's optimism the six-time All-Star will be able to play Sunday against Minnesota after three more days off. With CJ McCollum (lung) also out Wednesday -- and several role players listed as questionable -- the Blazers will again be shorthanded in the backcourt.
