Trail Blazers' Ish Wainright: Scooped up by Portland

The Trail Blazers claimed Wainright (calf) off waivers from the Suns on Saturday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Wainwright was cut loose by the Suns on Thursday, but he drew interest from a Portland club lacking in much established frontcourt depth beyond Deandre Ayton, Robert Williams and Jerami Grant. Though he would have been on the outside looking in for a rotation spot in Phoenix, Wainright could settle into a light role on the Trail Blazers' second unit.
