Gay entered the concussion protocol after he exited Wednesday's practice with a head injury, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
While Kansas City doesn't expect Gay to miss significant time, he'll need to clear several benchmarks before he's allowed to return to practice. The team plans to be careful with the linebacker in the coming days to avoid rushing him back, and it's not yet clear whether the issue will impact his availability for the preseason opener against the 49ers on Aug. 14.
