The Padres offered third baseman Chase Headley a three-year contract extension this winter, worth between $33-39 million, sources told CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

However, both sides are not close to a deal since Headley is believed to be seeking an offer well in excess of what the Padres offered. Headley said this spring he expects to play this season without any more dialogue about a contract extension.
