  • Zach Vincej: Moves into coaching

The Mariners announced Monday that Vincej will serve as a coach on Triple-A Tacoma's staff in 2022.

Vincej's transition into coaching signals the end of his playing career. The 30-year-old infielder inked a minor-league deal with the Mariners last summer, but he never appeared in any games in 2021 before electing free agency earlier in the offseason. After entering the professional ranks in 2012 as a 37th-round draft pick of the Reds, Vincej went on to spent parts of two seasons (2017 and 2018) in the majors with Cincinnati and Seattle, logging three hits over 16 career plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Zach Vincej: Lands MiLB deal with M's

Vincej signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on June 3 and was assigned to the organization's rookie-level Arizona League affiliate.

After electing free agency following the 2019 season, Vincej appeared to be transitioning into a post-playing career, as he had accepted a coaching position at Pepperdine, his alma mater. The 30-year-old infielder has apparently since reconsidered his stance, and he'll attempt to reboot his career with Seattle, the organization in which he spent the 2018 campaign. Vincej enjoyed cups of coffee in the big leagues with both Cincinnati and Seattle in 2017 and 2018, respectively, appearing in 10 games between the two clubs.

  • Orioles' Zach Vincej: Agrees to minor-league contract

Vincej signed a minor-league deal with the Orioles on Wednesday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

The 27-year-old infielder played in 109 games for Triple-A Tacoma in the Mariners' system this past season, slashing .247/.315/.345 with six home runs, 51 RBI and seven stolen bases. He's only managed to accumulate 16 major-league plate appearances over his career and should be seen as organizational depth looking ahead to the 2019 campaign.

Vincej will remain with Tacoma after being designated for assignment by the Mariners on Tuesday. Across 99 games for the Rainiers this year, he's hit .246/.314/.346 with six home runs and 47 RBI.

  • Mariners' Zach Vincej: DFA'd by Mariners

Vincej was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Vincej had his contract purchased in late July but only remained in the majors a couple days while Kyle Seager was on the paternity list. Ross Detwiler was added to the 40-man roster in a corresponding move.

  • Mariners' Zach Vincej: Heads back to Triple-A

Vincej was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

The move was a mere formality, as Vincej had been up strictly to fill in for Kyle Seager while the latter was on the paternity list. With the veteran third baseman returning Thursday, Vincej heads back to Tacoma, where he's slashed .236/.301/.341 over 84 games.

  • Mariners' Zach Vincej: Contract purchased from minors

  • Mariners' Zach Vincej: Sent to minors camp

The Mariners reassigned Vincej to their minor-league camp Sunday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Vincej was a long shot to crack the Opening Day roster with Andrew Romine and Taylor Motter viewed within the organization as superior utility options. After spending most of the 2017 campaign with Triple-A Louisville in the Reds organization, Vincej is expected to get his first taste of the Pacific Coast League this season while playing primarily with Triple-A Tacoma.

  • Mariners' Zach Vincej: Returns to action

Vincej (quadriceps) appears to have returned to health and went 0-for-2 Sunday against the Reds.

Vincej missed some time due to quad tightness, but he seems good to go and has seen the field in every game since March 6. He's 2-for-13 and has struck out four times through nine spring training games. After coming into camp with a slim chance to make the team, Vincej will have to dramatically improve his performance to have any shot at the Opening Day roster.

  • Mariners' Zach Vincej: Dealing with quad tightness

Vincej has been held out of game action due to quad tightness, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

The 26-year-old shortstop is in camp with the Mariners as a non-roster invitee, and the likelihood of him making the team was already low. He has just 12 career major-league plate appearances and hit an unimpressive .270/.325/.370 with just three home runs in 420 plate appearances for Triple-A Louisville last year. If he misses much more time this spring, his chances of breaking camp with Seattle will sink even further.

  • Mariners' Zach Vincej: Signs minor-league deal with Mariners

Vincej agreed to a minor-league deal with Seattle on Friday which includes an invite to spring training.

Vincej spent most of the 2017 season at the Triple-A level within the Reds' organization, but he earned a promotion once rosters expanded in September and appeared in nine games with Cincinnati. During that time he only received 12 plate appearances, going 1-for-9 with five strikeouts, but he had a decent enough campaign in the minors to warrant a look from the Mariners. The 26-year-old will likely begin next season at Triple-A Tacoma while serving as infield depth in the organization.

Vincej was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Vincej, who was claimed off waivers from the Reds last week, will stick in Seattle as organizational depth after the team passed him through waivers untouched. The 26-year-old shortstop made his major-league debut in 2017, going 1-for-9 with a walk in nine appearances as a September callup.
