  • Artie Lewicki: Cut by Diamondbacks

Lewicki was released by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Lewicki made just two major-league appearances in 2020, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five over 3.1 innings. After seeing limited action in the big leagues, the 28-year-old intends to play overseas in 2021.

  • Diamondbacks' Artie Lewicki: Optioned to alternate site

Lewicki was optioned to the alternate site Sunday.

Lewicki joined the big-league club on Sept. 1 and pitched in the major leagues for the first time since 2018. The 28-year old threw 3.1 innings and allowed two earned runs while striking out five.

  • Diamondbacks' Artie Lewicki: Returns to majors

Lewicki's contract was selected by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Lewicki last appeared in the majors in 2018 prior to undergoing Tommy John surgery. He'll return to a major-league bullpen in Arizona, but he likely won't play a prominent relief role.

  • Diamondbacks' Artie Lewicki: Joins 60-man roster

Lewicki will be a part of the Diamondbacks' 60-man summer camp.

Lewicki's 2018 season was cut short by a second Tommy John surgery, and he was later claimed off waivers by Arizona and outrighted off the 40-man a month afterwards. He's at least seen action in the majors, however, appearing in 13 games for Detroit in 2018 and posting a 4.89 ERA before injury shut down his season. He missed the entire 2019 campaign as a result.

  • Diamondbacks' Artie Lewicki: Cast off 40-man roster

Lewicki (elbow) was sent outright to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

Lewicki was cast off the Diamondbacks' 40-man roster in order to free up space for prospects who need to be protected in advance of the Rule 5 draft. The 26-year-old righty is slated to miss the entire 2019 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery at the end of August.

  • Diamondbacks' Artie Lewicki: Claimed off waivers by Diamondbacks

Lewicki (elbow) was claimed off waivers by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Lewicki is set to miss the entire 2019 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery at the end of August. The Diamondbacks will either need to carry him on their 40-man roster until the start of the season (when he can be transferred to the 60-day DL) or attempt to pass him through waivers as the Tigers did. The 26-year-old posted a 4.89 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 30:14 K:BB across 38.2 innings with the Tigers in 2018 prior to suffering the injury.

  • Tigers' Artie Lewicki: Moves to 60-day DL

Lewicki (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Sunday.

The right-hander is already expected to miss the entire 2019 campaign after undergoing a second Tommy John surgery, so this move does nothing to change his short-term outlook. The move was simply made to clear a 40-man roster spot for veteran catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. Look for Lewicki to return ahead of the 2020 season.

  • Tigers' Artie Lewicki: Requires second Tommy John surgery

Manager Ron Gardenhire said Thursday that Lewicki (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery next week and miss the entire 2019 season, Evan Woodbery of MLive Media Group reports.

Lewicki was dealt with more unfortunate news after meeting with an elbow specialist in New York on Wednesday. Though an MRI last week revealed a bone spur but no additional damage, Lewicki continued to deal with discomfort which prompted him to visit Dr. Christopher Arnold, who operated on him during his first Tommy John surgery in high school. He is expected to make a full recovery by spring training in 2020.

  • Tigers' Artie Lewicki: Set to visit specialist

Lewicki is scheduled to see an elbow specialist in New York on Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Lewicki is still experiencing pain in his right elbow, so he'll see Dr. Christopher Arnold -- who operated on him in high school -- for a second opinion on the injury. At the moment, the right-hander remains without a clear return timetable.

  • Tigers' Artie Lewicki: MRI reveals bone spur

Lewicki underwent an MRI on Wednesday that confirmed a bone spur but no additional damage to the elbow, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Lewicki was put on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday morning, as the team cited "elbow inflammation" as the culprit. Though his MRI revealed a bone spur, Lewicki could potentially return after a minimum stay on the shelf if his elbow responds well to anti-inflammatories. It appears as though the club may turn to Ryan Carpenter for Saturday's start in Minnesota.

  • Tigers' Artie Lewicki: Out with elbow inflammation

Lewicki was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday with right elbow inflammation.

The move was made retroactive to Aug. 14, so Lewicki could potentially just miss one start (though a timeline has not yet been announced). Reliever Zac Reininger was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to fill Lewicki's place on the roster for the time being. The Tigers will likely have to make another move to bring in a starter to take Lewicki's place in the rotation Saturday against the Twins.

  • Tigers' Artie Lewicki: Allows three runs in no-decision

Lewicki did not factor into the decision in Monday's 9-5 win over the White Sox, as he allowed three earned runs on six hits over 4.2 innings. He walked three and struck out three.

Lewicki recently slid into the starting rotation when the team traded away Mike Fiers, and the 26-year-old righty looked mediocre in this outing. He has a 4.89 ERA for the season, and after posting a 6.10 mark in limited time at the MLB level last year, there isn't reason for optimism. However, Lewicki should stick in the rotation for now, with his next appearance scheduled for Saturday against the Twins on the road.

  • Tigers' Artie Lewicki: Slides into starting rotation

Lewicki will move into the Tigers' starting rotation, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Lewicki was recalled from the minors earlier this week following the trade of Mike Fiers and made a three-inning appearance as a reliever Wednesday. The Tigers have yet to officially announce his first start, but if he takes Jacob Turner's spot in the rotation -- who is now designated for assignment -- he lines up to pitch against the White Sox on Monday.

  • Tigers' Artie Lewicki: Strikes out five in relief

Lewicki allowed an earned run on three hits over three innings of relief work in Wednesday's loss to the Angels. He struck out five.

Lewicki, who was called up from Triple-A Toledo earlier in the day, pitched well in his return to the majors. The 26-year-old could slot into the rotation spot previously held by Mike Fiers, who was recently shipped to Oakland. Jacob Turner is also in the mix, but he struggled mightily in a start Tuesday, allowing seven runs (five earned) on six hits and a walk over just one inning of work.

  • Tigers' Artie Lewicki: Recalled from minors

Lewicki was called up from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Lewicki will likely take on a role in the Tigers bullpen upon his arrival, though he could potentially join the starting rotation after making a pair of spot starts for the big-league club this year. Over 11 appearances with Detroit, he's logged a 4.94 ERA and 1.61 WHIP.

  • Tigers' Artie Lewicki: Option to rejoin big-league rotation

Lewicki is one of the top candidates to replace Mike Fiers (shin), who was traded to the A's on Monday, in the Tigers' starting rotation, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Given Lewicki pitched for Triple-A Toledo on Friday, he may not be summoned to make Tuesday's start, though he appears to be the leading candidate to replace Fiers beyond that. The 26-year-old has already started a pair of games for the big club this season and owns a 4.67 ERA and 55:16 K:BB across 12 starts (61.2 innings) for the Mud Hens. Ryan Carpenter is also an option to enter the rotation should the Tigers choose to go with someone other than Lewicki.

  • Tigers' Artie Lewicki: Dispatched to minors

Lewicki was optioned to Triple-A Toledo following the Tigers' 3-0 loss to the Rangers on Sunday.

Lewicki saw light usage out of the bullpen during his latest stint with Detroit, making just three appearances since being recalled from Toledo on June 22. He'll likely slot back into the Triple-A rotation and build his arm back up in the event the Tigers require a spot starter in the second half of the season.

  • Tigers' Artie Lewicki: Rejoins big-league club

Lewicki was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

The right-hander has eight games (two starts) with the Tigers this year but holds an uninspiring 4.18 ERA with 18 strikeouts, nine walks and a 1.61 WHIP. He'll work in low-leverage spots as a depth piece.

  • Tigers' Artie Lewicki: Optioned to minors

Lewicki was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after Friday's game, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Lewicki made two starts while Jordan Zimmermann was out with an inujred shoulder and allowed five earned runs on 11 hits and four walks over just 8.2 innings. Zimmermann will make his return to the Tigers rotation Saturday, and he will take Lewicki's roster spot upon activation. Lewicki had some success in a swingman role and may be back, but seeing as he has options remaining, he was the most expendable player on the 25-man roster to make space for Zimmermann.
