The Giants didn't waste any time after watching their offensive line struggle in the preseason finale against the Patriots. Less than 24 hours after the team's 22-20 loss, the Giants traded defensive tackle B.J. Hill and a conditional 2022 seventh-round draft choice to the Bengals in exchange for offensive lineman Billy Price.
A former Ohio State standout, Price was the 21st overall pick in the 2018 draft. After starting 10 games at center during his rookie season, Price started eight games at left guard in 2019. Price, who made just one start last season, did not have his fifth-year option picked up this spring. Price was deemed expendable with Trey Hopkins returning from injury.
Price, who battled through injures during his time in Cincinnati, is coming off of a solid preseason that saw him make marked improvement in pass protection.
In exchange for Price, the Bengals are getting a 6-foot-3, 311-pound defensive tackle with 48 games and 17 regular-season starts under his belt. Hill, who didn't receive a single start during Joe Judge's first season in New York, had 7.5 sacks and 116 tackles (10 for loss) during his three seasons with the Giants. His best season in New York was his first, when Hill tallied 5.5 sacks 48 tackles and two tackles for loss.
The Giants are surely hoping that Price can provide quality depth for an offensive line that allowed four sacks (including two of starting quarterback Daniel Jones) in their preseason finale. The Giants offensive line was ranked 31st in the NFL by Pro Football Focus at the end of the 2020 season.
